Consumers who own a Super Jumper 14-foot trampoline or a 14-foot or a 16-foot combination trampoline with included enclosures are the products at the highest risk for failure. Super Jumpers said the reinforcement kits are designed for these items. The trampolines now recalled were sold online through several retailers including Wayfair and Walmart. The products were available in a range of $200.00 to $400.00. 

Any consumer who owns a trampoline made by Super Jumpers should check the welds and railings for structural integrity. Any defects must be repaired immediately. According to Lexus, only 573 2019 ES model vehicles need to be inspected. Merely 13 cars need to be examined that were sold in Canada. The remainder of the vehicles sold were purchased in the U.S. Lexus said that owners and lessees could bring their vehicles to their Lexus dealership for inspection. Lexus said that its dealers and service shops would replace and reinstall the knee-level airbag free of charge to the consumer once the recall campaign begins in earnest at the end of April 2019. No official recall date has been announced.

Lexus will notify the 573 vehicle owners or lessees by mail. Additionally, Lexus did not say how the need for recall came to the company’s attention nor did they say if anyone sustained injuries relating to the incorrectly installed knee-level airbag. 

The recall affects only a small portion of the total number of Lexus ES models sold or leased each month. Lexus estimates that it moves between 2,000 to 5,000 ES vehicles monthly, according to cnet.com.

Mazda Vehicles Subject to Recall over Windshield Wiper Failure

DETRIOT, Mich. — According to Time Magazine, Mazda must recall 190,000 of the popular Mazda 3 compact sedans due to the potential for windshield wiper failure. All of the recalled vehicles were sold in the United States. The vehicle manufacturer announced the recall campaign on Saturday, April 6, 2019, and will begin accepting vehicles for repair on June 3, 2019.

Mazda announced that it would initiate a recall campaign for its Mazda 3 compact sedans stating June 3, 2019. The recall concerns 2016 to 2018 model years. Mazda, which is based in Japan, released information suggesting that metal deposits that become lodged in the relay system of the windshield wipers can cause the electrical relay to stick. If the wiper relay sticks, then the windshield wipers will not operate correctly. In fact, the company warns that the windshield wipers could fail completely, thereby obscuring the driver’s vision. The problem is not one that the motorist could manufacture a quick fix. Instead, Mazda said it would replace the replay system in the vehicles at no cost to the consumer. Mazda said that it had not received any reports of accidents or injuries as a consequence of its failing windshield wipers. 

The source of the problem relates to a defective manufacturing process for the windshield wiper relays. The process leaves metal shavings behind which become entangled in the relay. Further problems pointed to silicone infecting the relays as well. 

The wiper manufacturer Bosch allegedly made the defective wiper relays. Mazda will repair the problem by removing the old relays and replacing the relays with an updated relay system.

Hyundai and Kia Vehicles Investigated Due to Fire Concerns

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that several Hyundai and Kia vehicles must be investigated due to concerns that the cars spontaneously burst into flames. According to Techknowbits.com, 100 people sustained various degrees of injury, and one person died in the fires, which reportedly number in the thousands. The NHTSA said that its investigation involves over 3 million vehicles in the United States as in select other countries. The NHTSA will investigate the claims and determine a cause, if a cause may be determined.

The NHTSA launched its current inquiry into Hyundai and Kia vehicles after a consumer advocacy group petitioned the federal regulators to open a case. The consumer advocacy group, called the Center for Auto Safety, suggested that the NHTSA use its inherent investigatory powers to ascertain a cause of the fires. None of the fires subject to the investigation were the result of a crash. Instead, some 3,125 auto fires happened without a collision igniting the flames.

The NHTSA’s Office of Defect Investigations will probe 2011 to 2014 Hyundai Sonata and Santa Fe vehicles along with 2011 to 2014 Kia Sorrento and Optima cars, in addition to the 2011 to 2015 model year Kia Soul vehicles. Regulators will focus their inquiry on these vehicles because of the type of engine used by these cars. NHTSA regulators will examine the 2.4 L to 2.0 L four-cylinder engines known as the “Theta II” model. These particular engines appear to be susceptible to spontaneous ignition. However, the NHTSA said that their investigators will not be constrained to solely inspecting the engines for spontaneous combustion problems and could look to other components for a cause.

Hyundai and Kia have announced that they shall cooperate with the NHTSA investigation. The NHTSA said that both companies have been open and transparent during their inquiry. The NHTSA did not give a timeframe for the completion of their probe.
